Things to do

There are many places to visit and things to do to suit all ages and energy levels. Children enjoy a walk to the river to feed the ducks, Hesketh Farm, Embsay Steam Railway, children’s fishing, pony trekking, scrambling up the gorge at Troller’s Gill, swimming in the river, playing on the rocks.

For the more energetic there are many scenic walks from the door including the Dales Way following the banks of the River Wharfe as well as Simon’s Seat (1600ft/485m), the valley of desolation, Troller’s Gill and Strid Wood at Bolton Abbey.

There are a number of excellent pubs and restaurants locally. The Craven Arms with Cruck Barn and the New Inn both offer a range of home cooked food and real ales. Burnsall is home to the Red Lion which offers delicious, imaginative food with seasonally changing menus, fine wines, and traditional bar with real ale. There is also the two AA rosette Devonshire Fell restaurant, which serves lunches and dinner. Whilst at Bolton Abbey the Burlington Restaurant has a Michelin Star and 4 AA rosettes and is the highest rated restaurant in Yorkshire.
